Medicaid & NJ FamilyCare

Medicaid Programs

NJ FamilyCare is a federal and state funded health insurance program created to help New Jersey families provide affordable health coverage for their dependent children. Eligibility is based on family size and monthly income, assets are not considered when determining eligibility.

For more information on NJ FamilyCare click logo below.

NJ FamilyCare is a comprehensive health insurance program that provides a wide range of services:

  • Doctor visits
  • Eyeglasses
  • Hospitalization
  • Lab tests
  • X-rays
  • Prescriptions
  • Regular checkups
  • Mental health
  • Dental (for most kids)

Each county has at least three and up to five Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) to choose from that will help you get these services once enrolled. Depending on your family's yearly income, there may be restrictions on certain services.

ADDITIONAL
MEDICAID PROGRAMS

MEDICAID ONLY
A program of medical benefits under Title XIX, available to aged, blind, or disabled individuals who do not wish to receive a money payment (SSI) but who have financial and/or medical eligibility and either reside in the community or who are receiving care in an eligible medical institution.

MEDICALLY NEEDY
A program enacted by P.L. 1985, Chap. 381, that extends limited Medicaid program benefits to certain groups of Medically Needy persons whose income and/or resources exceed the standards for other Medicaid Programs, but is insufficient to meet their medical expenses.

GLOBAL OPTIONS
A program to help eligible individuals to remain in the community, or to return to the community, rather than be cared for in a long term care facility or a hospital setting by use of specific home and community based services. The cost to Medicaid for services provided under GO generally cannot be greater than 70% of the cost of institutionalization of that individual.

MODEL WAIVER
A program to help eligible individuals to remain in the community or to return to the community rather than be cared for in a long term care facility or a hospital setting by use of home and community based services. The cost to Medicaid for services provided to the Model Waiver client cannot be greater than the cost of institutionalization of that same client. Those served under this program would normally not be eligible for Medicaid services while living at home because of their own income or because of SSI deeming rules.

NURSING HOMES
The Salem County Board of Social Services serves all municipalities in the county and provides statewide placement for those eligible for nursing and boarding homes.

Eligibility requirements for Adult Medicaid Programs

AGED is defined as age 65or over.

DISABLED is defined as totally and permanently disabled according to Social Security guidelines - unable to work for at least one year. Those persons who receive Social Security Disability benefits meet the guidelines; other persons must be medically evaluated by the State of N. J. Disability Review Section.

Because of the varied and complicated nature of eligibility requirements in the Medicaid programs it is suggested that you do not hesitate to contact our office and discuss your specific situations.
856-299-7200 and ask for Adult Medicaid.
